112 Ocean Avenue Amityville, New York

112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville on Long Island, New York is one of the most notorious haunted houses in history. This is due in large part to the book that was published in 1977 by Jay Anson titled “The Amityville Horror: A True Story”. The book was based on events described by Kathy and George Lutz they claim occurred December 1975. The Lutz family moved out of the house just 28 days after moving in claiming to have been tormented by paranormal events that made the house uninhabitable. The Lutz family had purchased the house approximately 13 months after Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered his mother, father, and four of their children with a .35 caliber rifle. The property was also reportedly settled by John Ketcham during the 17th century who was said to have practiced witchcraft and devil worship for which he was forced to leave Salem, Massachusetts. Some say he is still buried in the northeast corner of the property. The house has been the subject of 10 movies and numerous publications.
